Nolan
and Company Jewelry established in 1959 by Jackie Talmadge
(Tam) Cheek and named the company after his
newborn child Nolan. Located in the fifth-largest city of North
Carolina, Winston-Salem is a prominent municipality
in the Piedmont Triad region. Often referred to as the "City of the
Arts," in part because of its history in having the first arts council
in the United States founded in 1949, local art schools and attractions.
These include the North Carolina School of the Arts, Piedmont Opera Theater,
Winston-Salem Symphony, Stevens Center for the Performing Arts and
the Sawtooth Center for Visual Arts. There are many galleries and workshops
in the city's art district centered at
Sixth and Trade Streets. Tam found Winston-Salem to be an ideal location
to build his company.
Specializing
in a wholesale market from Gemstones, lapidary stone cutting and
jewelry manufacturing, Tam found success from
New York to Florida. In 1970, he opened his first location in Winston-Salem,
which offered wholesale prices to the public.
In 1979, Nolan Bradley (Brad) Cheek
joined his father to become a valued part of the company.
In 1981, Brad completed his G.I.A. (Gemological Institute of America)
training, which provided in-depth understanding
of the jewelry industry at an executive level.
Tam's
premature death occurred in 2001. Brad's vision was to continue his father's
work and uphold the highest standards of quality and customer satisfaction.
In the early spring of 2006, Brad teamed up with
Stephen Michael Walker of Walker
Web Design to create an online buying experience that matched
the company's fine
history of doing business. Gaining experience with eBay
allowed the company to become proficient as an
online seller with a High customer satisfaction index!
